Forbidden Fruit

Background: I wrote this poem after receiving a prompt to write about an apple. I like to write organically so it is very interesting for me to find out where a poem will follow using a prompt. This poem is near and dear to me since it was the first poem that I read at my very first poetry reading. So, I present to you …

Forbidden Fruit

Waxy all around its curves

From the trees of your temptation.

Crunchy to the very core

The seeds of your “salvation.”

Sweet it is, time after time;

Bittersweet, though, upon reflection.

Though an apple costs a dime a dozen,

Its tang could cost a fortune.

But bite you do this fruit of cost.

The seeds you “knew” would soon be lost.

Until the worms come out to reveal

The remnants of your zeal.
